Sorry if this was made official at some point, but it's the first I've heard of it. After Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Cornelius Washington was arrested last weekend, Mark Richt said he'd be suspended for at least two games. From the sounds of it, two games it is. Here's Richt on Tuesday:

It will probably be a little bit by committee to decide how we are going to handle the loss of Cornelius this week and next week. It is definitely going to provide more opportunities for Ray Drew, and there are other things we might move around to help us in that area, but we'll know better after we practice a little bit.

That would (A) rule out Washington for the Tennessee Volunteers and Vanderbilt Commodores, (B) bring him back in time for the Florida Gators and (C) ensure Ray Drew doesn't have to spend any more time testing Todd Grantham's emissions during the weeks leading up to Halloween, always a pumpkin-heavy time of year.

The first glimmer of hope for Mark Richt - a suddenly stifling defense and back-to-back conference wins - have been karmically adjusted to maintain his "embattled coach" status. Richt is suspending linebacker Cornelius Washington, Georgia's team leader in sacks (3.5), for this Saturday's game at Tennessee and next week's trip to Vanderbilt.

Seth Emerson breaks down Richt's handy system of "punishment percentages" that determined Washington's two-game verdict:

Head coach Mark Richt said on Sunday that Washington's arrest, for DUI and speeding, falls under the category of a "minimum 20 percent" of the season suspension. He later specified that would mean "at least" two games. So effectively Washington is out for Saturday's visit to Tennessee and the following week's game at Vanderbilt.

"It's a setback, but I don't know if it'll deter us from playing hard and playing well," Richt said. "It'll give something else another opportunity."

In terms of ranking this offense on "Energy Vampire" chart within the UGA program, Washington's arrest is the first in almost a full calendar year - therefore we expect him to vaulted to some kind of lethal Dracula status. We're talking "Lost Boys" and the first "Fright Night" here, people, not your tween-age sister's "Twilight."

Georgia pass rusher Cornelius Washington was reportedly arrested for DUI and speeding, the first UGA arrest in almost a year.

After winning last year's Fulmer Cup due to a steady, dink-and-dunk attack, the Georgia Bulldogs went without an arrest since Caleb King's indiscretion on October 11, 2010. If they'd been able to go an entire year, the only proper celebration would've been a flash scooter derby throughout every avenue in Athens.

Alas.

Cornelius Washington, junior UGA linebacker, appears to have been arrested in Commerce, Georgia for driving under the influence and speeding, according to reporting by Macon.com's Seth Emerson and the Athens Banner-Herald's Marc Weiszer. Washington was booked into the Jackson County jail and released on bond, the jail confirmed.

Washington leads Georgia in sacks, with 3.5 on the year. He's put up multiple sacks in consecutive games. A little quarterback pressure would certainly come in handy against the Tennessee Volunteers' Tyler Bray, who likes to throw the ball around a little bit, but that's probably not going to happen.
