it was a stark contrast from Tuesday night's 76-74 loss to the Chicago Bulls as Atlanta jumped out to a 12-1 advantage and for the most part never took their foot off the gas. Despite the game being the third in three nights for the Hawks, they looked much fresher than the Bulls with Tuesday's game perhaps serving as motivation for the club.

"When we played at Houston (a Dec. 31 loss), they were playing their third in three nights and they played with an enormous amount of energy . . . and tonight, we were very similar. Our guys came out from the very beginning and played with a lot of emotion. We played like a team that might have been playing on its first night. We just took it to them. For the most part, we started with energy, and never let up."

Josh Smith scored a season-high 25 points while Joe Johnson added 17 in the win. Atlanta's defense helped hold Derrick Rose to just eight points, six assists and five turnovers with a solid team effort defensively.

"We did a good team job on him defensively in crowding him, trapping him and showing him different looks," Josh Smith said after the Hawks held Rose to just eight point in a 109-94 win over the Bulls. "We played sound defense on him."

Just about everything went right for the Hawks in the game except for small forward Marvin Williams suffering an ankle injury in the first quarter. Williams left the game and was later diagnosed with a grade-1 ankle sprain and his status for Monday's game in New Jersey is unknown at this time.

There was no comeback in this one for Chicago. The Atlanta Hawks took control in the opening minutes of the game and finished off the Bulls by a score of 109-94

After falling behind early, Chicago's second unit provided a spark and got the Bulls back to within one point. However, Atlanta closed the half with an 18-2 run that increased the lead to 63-45 at the half. Josh Smith provided the energy for the Hawks stuffing the stat sheet with 25 points, five rebounds, five assists, four steals and six blocks. He was everywhere for Atlanta and has been the best player on the floor the last two nights for the Hawks.

Vladimir Radmanovic came off the bench and also provided a spark scoring 17 points including 5-5 shooting from three-point range. Joe Johnson hit half of his shots going 7-14 for 17 points and also finished with four rebounds and five assists. Jeff Teague also had a big game with 12 points, eight assists and five steals while Al Horford finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Atlanta hit nine of its first 10 shots from beyond the arc before finishing 9-12 in the game.

Atlanta did a nice job containing Derrick Rose who was held to eight points and six assists to go along with five turnovers in the game.

The Atlanta Hawks continue to pour it on as they take a 85-62 lead over the Chicago Bulls into the fourth quarter Many Hawks fans would be more comfortable had what happened on Tuesday between these same two teams not occurred.

On Tuesday Atlanta led by as many as 19 points before Chicago and Derrick Rose engineered a big fourth quarter comeback. Atlanta has been solid this go around and has been clicking on the offensive end of the floor where they have hit 9-10 three-point attempts.

Josh Smith leads Atlanta with 19 points. Vladimir Radmanovic and Joe Johnson each have 17 for the Hawks. Radmanovic came off the bench and has gone 5-5 from beyond-the-arc.

Carlos Boozer leads the Bulls with 12 points and is followed by Taj Gibson with 11. Derrick Rose has eight points and six assists through three quarters.

Marvin Williams left in the first quarter of Saturday's contest against the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks have announced that he has a grade 1 ankle sprain and will not return to this game.

No idea of the severity of the injury and how long Williams might be out at this point. Vladimir Radmanovic started the second half at small forward and has scored 17 points off the bench. With Radmanovic being primarily used at the small forward position it also means more playing time for rookie forward Ivan Johnson who checked into the game in the third quarter as the back up power forward.

The Atlanta Hawks closed the second quarter with a 18-2 run to take a 63-45 lead over the Chicago Bulls into halftime. Atlanta lost to Chicago 76-74 on Tuesday and nearly equaled that offensive performance in the first half.

Offensively the Hawks are smoking hitting over 61 percent of their field goal attempts including 8-9 from beyond-the-arc. Those threes have come from everywhere including out of the halfcourt and in transition. Vladimir Radmanovic hit all four of his three-point attempts and leads Atlanta with 14 points at halftime.

Josh Smith got Atlanta going early and also finished the half with 14 points. Joe Johnson finished with a flurry including a buzzer beating runner on Atlanta's final possession of the half. Johnson has 12 points at the intermission.

Chicago's second unit brought the Bulls back from a first quarter deficit behind the play of Taj Gibson who leads the team with nine points. Carlos Boozer has eight points and Derrick Rose just four points at the half for Chicago.

Atlanta knows full well that the Bulls can overcome a big lead having blown a 19 point lead to Chicago earlier this week. Thus far Jeff Teague has been able to do a good job of containing Derrick Rose and that will be key as the second half plays out.

There was no sign of dead legs from the Atlanta Hawks in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 33-18 lead over the Chicago Bulls. The Hawks shot a blistering 58 percent in the first quarter and hit four of its five three-point attempts.

Josh Smith picked right up where he left off last night in Charlotte scoring nine points and seemed to energize his Atlanta teammates. Atlanta also finished with 10 assists and five steals in the first quarter.

Chicago came out struggling offensively and was bothered by the Hawks defense at the rim. Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng score four points each while reigning MVP Derrick Rose finished with two after hitting just one of his three shot attempts.

The Atlanta Hawks will wrap up their first back-to-back-to-back set of games Saturday night when they host Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on SportSouth.

The Atlanta Hawks will wrap up a three games in three days stretch Saturday night against the Chicago Bulls at Philips Arena. The game will also be Atlanta's ninth in 12 days to start the season. To complicate things even more, the Hawks last two games have gone into overtime and Thursday's game required three additional periods.

That means that the Hawks could have some weary legs Saturday night when they take on a Bulls team that has won six straight games after defeating the Orlando Magic last night. Atlanta has extra motivation for tonight after the Hawks blew a 19 point lead Tuesday night against the Bulls falling 76-74 at the United Center.

"We were right there with them," Atlanta center Al Horford said. "We dominated for most of the game. Just Derrick Rose happened."

Atlanta successfully bounced back from a disappointing home loss to a shorthanded Miami Heat team on Thursday by defeating the Charlotte Bobcats 102-96 in overtime. last night. Josh Smith produced his best game of the season last night finishing with 23 points and 13 rebounds for Atlanta. The Hawks will need more of that effort tonight if they are to take down one of the Eastern Conference's best in the Bulls.

Tip off from Philips Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be televised by SportSouth.
