After a long, drawn-out wait that left the faithful followings of several basketball programs on the edge of their seats, coveted power forward recruit Tony Parker has announced that he will play at UCLA.

The decision is of course a blow to Georgia, who has been hopeful to land the in-state recruit. He starred at Miller Grove High School in Lithonia, GA, and appeared serious about his interest in playing for the Bulldogs throughout the process.

In heading west to join the Bruins, Parker will join fellow top recruit Shabazz Muhammad to form one of the best classes in the country. The Bruins program has swooned in recent seasons, and this pair of freshmen will be counted on to help restore tradition.

Tony Parker's college decision process has been a long winding road but that is really how it should be for a high school student that is making one of the biggest decisions of his life. Parker is scheduled to end the saga at around 4 p.m. ET today at Miller Grove High School.

Parker has played things really close to his chest over the last few weeks and there isn't a clear indication of what direction he may go. Parker still lists UCLA, Duke, Kansas, Ohio State, Memphis and Georgia as his finalists. Many believe it is now down to a decision between the hometown Bulldogs and the Bruins with Ohio State remaining as a dark horse candidate.

Recent reports indicate that Parker is being recruited hard by fellow recruits Shabazz Muhammad and Kyle Anderson to join them at UCLA. Parker's former AAU coach Korey McCray is currently an assistant coach with the Bruins as well.

While Georgia doesn't have the basketball pedigree of the other schools on Parker's list they do offer the convenience of staying close to home and the ability to rejoin two of his Miller Grove teammates. Parker would be one of the biggest recruits to ever sign with the program and would be given the opportunity to shine from the outset.

The circus surrounding highly touted Atlanta area recruit Tony Parker will continue through the weekend, as the 6-foot-9 280 lb. prospect from Miller Grove High School has pushed his official announcement back to Monday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

UCLA is thought to be the front-runner for Parker's services - Parker's former Atlanta-area AAU coach Korey McCray is now an assistant with the team - although the AJC also quoted Parker's high school coach that Parker had not already signed with the Bruins:

"That’s something that got started at [an all-star game] … it doesn’t have any legs to it," Miller Grove High School coach Sharman White told the AJC on Sunday.

"Tony has not committed yet. That’s the best and only way I can put it."

Along with the Bruins, Parker's known finalists are Duke, Georgia, Kansas and Ohio State, which makes three of this year's Final Four teams.

It was believed that Parker would announce his decision earlier this week, however that now seems not to be the case. His list of schools include Georgia, UCLA, Ohio State, Duke and Kansas, although it remains unclear if any program currently holds the edge.

The 6'9", 270-pound power forward was a recent participant in the McDonald's High School All American game, and has until May 19 to announce his decision during the late signing period.

Once folks got past the idea that a conversation regarding "Tony Parker" wasn't in relation with the guard from the San Antonio Spurs, college basketball fans got their wits about them and began conceiving the idea that the McDonald's All-American big man could be coming to their campus real soon.

After denying reports that Parker would take his talents to Westwood to be a member of the UCLA Bruins, this much is clear.
Tony Parker stands 6-foot-9 and weighs 280 pounds. Parker's ranked by ESPNU as the nation’s No. 21 overall prospect and led Miller Grove to four straight state championships.

Tony Parker may be finally closing in on a decision for where he will attend college next season. Parker said during the Jordan Brand Classic Saturday night that he will probably announce his decision later in the week at his school.

"I haven't worked out all of the details yet, but next week is the week," said Parker, a forward at Miller Grove (Lithonia, Ga.) who suited up for the East. "I'm just ready to get it over with. It's been a long process, and I'm ready for it to be over. I'm still weighing things out, but I gave myself 'til next week. That's when it's happening."

Parker is reportedly still considering a number of schools including Duke, Kansas, Ohio State, UCLA and Georgia among others. The Bulldogs were an afterthought early but there is speculation now that they are in the mix among some of college basketball's heavyweights.

College basketball's late signing period begins today and while it is up in the air whether Miller Grove star Tony Parker will sign with anyone on Wednesday that shouldn't upset any Georgia fans hoping to see Parker in Athens. With each passing day that he doesn't sign with the likes of Duke, Kansas or UCLA it seems to improve the Bulldogs chances.

Bulldogs coach Mark Fox deserves praise for just getting Georgia in the conversation against some of college basketball's heavyweights. When the early signing period it looked like the Bulldogs had struck out on the state's three biggest prospects. Southwest Dekalb's Shaq Goodwin picked Memphis and Shiloh High's Robert Carter picked Georgia Tech. Tony Parker elected not to sign but hardly seemed to be paying attention to the Bulldogs.

Flash forward to now and Fox has the Bulldogs in position to land their biggest recruit in some time. Parker is the perfect fit for a Bulldogs team that is in desperate need of a low post threat both offensively and defensively. Which way he is leaning only Parker knows but with each passing day the unlikelihood that he would remain in-state becomes just a little more likely.
