The Braves have an odd schedule this week, playing two two-game series against different opponents. First up were the Cincinnati Reds, who entered Atlanta playing their best baseball of the season. The clubs split the two games, with the Braves winning the series finale on Tuesday night.

Game one was closely contested throughout. Homer Bailey and Randall Delgado both pitched well enough for a win, but it was not until the eighth inning when the Reds scratched across two runs against Jonny Venters on their way to a 3-1 win.

Game two was not close. Despite a perfect record of 4-0 entering the game, the Braves smacked around Johnny Cueto in the early innings and held the lead late on their way to a 6-2 victory. Catcher Brian McCann hit his first homer in nearly two weeks as Tim Hudson picked up his second win of the year.

The Braves now shift their focus to the Marlins for a two-game series that is set to begin Wednesday evening at 7:10 from Turner Field.

The Braves split their two-game series with the Reds on Tuesday night, claiming a 6-2 victory. Tim Hudson put forth his best start of the season -- he allowed just two runs over seven innings of work -- and the offense battered Johnny Cueto, who entered the game with a perfect record of 4-0.

Brian McCann got things going early for Atlanta with a solo homer in the sixth, his first in nearly two weeks. Martin Prado and Chipper Jones hit back-to-back RBI-singles in the third inning, and Prado came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Dan Uggla. Jason Heyward then broke the game wide open with an RBI-double to center field to give the Braves a 5-0 lead. Prado added yet another run with an RBI-single in the fourth.

The Reds scored their two runs in the seventh inning, but Hudson got a deep fly out from Brandon Phillips to end the threat without any more harm done. Kris Medlen worked a scoreless eighth inning. Craig Kimbrel walked two in the ninth, but he battled back to work a scoreless ninth inning as well.

The Braves will now face the Marlins for a two-game series beginning Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. from Turner Field.

The Atlanta Braves struggled to come up with big hits on Monday night against the Reds. Not only was it a tough loss for the club, but everyone was holding their breath as first baseman Freddie Freeman exited the game with blurred vision. After being checkout out by an optometrist, Freeman has been diagnosed with a corneal abrasion.

The injury is not expected to be serious and some wondered if he would be back in the lineup on Tuesday night, but manager Fredi Gonzalez has decided to rest Freeman for the night. Eric Hinske will make the start at first base and will hit seventh in the order. Chipper Jones has moved up to the No. 3 spot. Here is the rest of the lineup:

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman left Monday's game against the Reds after having some blurred vision. Freeman went through a couple of sets of contacts but the situation didn't improve. However, his injury isn't serious and he could be back in the lineup on Tuesday.

The news is good for the Braves who can expect to have their first baseman back sooner rather than later. Freeman is hitting .277 on the season and leads the team with six homers and 28 RBIs. Eric Hinske took over for Freeman in the eighth inning Monday night and would likely get the start at first base on Tuesday if the Braves decide to hold Freeman out.

The Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds play the second of their two-game series on Tuesday with the Braves looking to get even with the Reds after falling 3-1 on Monday.

Tim Hudson will face Johnny Cueto (4-0, 1.12 ERA) in the pitching duel. Cueto became the National League ERA leader after Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster gave up four runs in a loss Monday. That's the challenge the Braves hitting rotation will face.

Hudson comes into the game with a 1-1 record and 4.50 ERA on the season.

The Atlanta Braves are like many around the country who struggle getting the work week started on Monday. Atlanta's series opening 3-1 loss Monday night drops Atlanta's record to 0-6 on Monday's this season. The Braves are 22-8 on all other days. Atlanta's offense has been a present surprise this season but the Braves have totaled just 11 runs in six Monday games this season.

While Atlanta has played the fewest home games of anyone in the National League they haven't exactly been playing their best when at Turner Field. The Braves have dropped five of their last seven at Turner Field and are 8-6 on the season. Contrast that with their 14-8 road record. Atlanta has three games remaining on their current four-game home stand before they head back out on the road for seven straight.

The Atlanta Braves had plenty of opportunities to scratch across runs on Monday night, but the club was unable to do so against Homer Bailey and the Reds bullpen as they fell by a score of 3-1. The Braves are now 0-6 on Mondays.

Randall Delgado continued to pitch very well against a tough Cincinnati lineup. The 22-year-old righty worked 6.2 innings of one-run ball (the run was unearned) and allowed just four hits and three walks. Bailey was equally impressive for the Reds, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball on six hits and two walks.

After getting two quick outs in the fourth, the Reds hit back-to-back singles off Delgado to put runners on first and second. Todd Frazier grounded a ball weakly to shortstop Tyler Pastornicky, who then tossed the ball quickly in the direction of the second base bag. No one was covering. Jay Bruce rounded third and came in to score the first run of the game on the error.

Atlanta tied the game in the fifth. Michael Bourn tripled and was driven in on a sacrifice fly from Martin Prado.

The score remained tied at 1-1 until the eighth inning. Jonny Venters was ineffective once again. Drew Stubbs led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Following a flyout from Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips doubled off the center field wall to bring Stubbs home. Bruce grounded out weakly for the second out of the eighth, but Chris Heisey followed with an RBI-double of his own to make the score 3-1.

The Braves loaded the bases in the eighth inning, but Aroldis Chapman came in to strikeout Jason Heyward to end the threat. Matt Diaz led off the ninth with a pinch-hit single, but Atlanta was unable to do anything with it.

The two clubs will wrap up their series on Tuesday evening at 7:10 ET.

Freeman was 0-for-3 in the game before his departure. Entering Monday, Freeman was hitting .284 with six home runs and 28 RBIs. Last season, Freeman played in 157 games, and this season, he has only missed one game.

Last year, Freeman hit .282 with 21 home runs and 76 RBIs for the Braves in his first full season in the Majors. The Braves currently trail the Reds 3-1 in the top of the ninth inning.
